The Conference on Distance Education: “Distance Learning: Research and Innovation for Digital Society” will be held at Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University main campus in Nonthaburi.
Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University (STOU) was established by Royal Charter on 5 September 1978 as Thailand’s eleventh state university and the first university in Southeast Asia to employ the distance learning system. STOU teaches through distance learning system that relies on a convergence of many different types of media, making higher education accessible, affordable, and serviceable to all.
STOU provides study programs, through 12 schools, in 5 different levels: certificate, bachelor’s degree, graduate diploma, master’s degree, and doctoral degree. STOU also offers continuing education to the general public in the form of non-degree programs including short training courses, certificates of achievement, and dissemination of knowledge and information by mass media.
Since its establishment, STOU has enabled the development of individuals and communities throughout Thailand and beyond, and the university will continue to serve the needs of the country. At present, STOU is working to increase its international profile through cooperation with international educational partners and organizations, benchmarking to ensure that STOU adheres to accepted world-class standards, and supporting international educational opportunities for STOU staff and students.
